The Beginning
|
The School of Religious Studies began in February 1978 as School of Personal Evangelism on Highway 82 in Greenville, MS. Dormitories were provided by a local church with strong support from other churches throughout the region. Different congregations helped provide facilities, transportation, and supplies for the school. The dormitory was furnished by contributions of furniture, bedding, and kitchen supplies from patrons throughout Mississippi and Arkansas. Food was donated to students from Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. In the fall of 1978 a ministerial program was begun. The teaching staff was all volunteers from educated men who have received a degree or some form of training in biblical studies. The first student graduated with honors in December 1980, receiving the ABM (Associate of Bible Ministry).

The Transition |
SRS housing trend changed as the bulk of the students were from the coast and did not need housing. SRS closed the dormitory and began distance learning programs and extension sites to serve those students who could not attend on campus. Out of this transition, several course formats were developed. These included the Refresher Seminar Courses, the Weekend Classes, and the Multiple Site Program. The school relocated to 4524 Meridian Street in Moss Point, MS on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in January 1987 after nine years in the Mississippi Delta.
|
The Present |
In May of 1999, the Executive Board transferred all the administrative operations to 1824 E 46th Street in North Little Rock, Arkansas. In this same decision, the board decided to maintain an extension program on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. SRS has an additional site in Batesville, MS. After twelve years of operation, SRS now operates from its present home at 6219 Highway 161 in North Little Rock, AR. At this site, the school has offices, classrooms and living quarters for students who need housing.
